 Pain touches our lives every
day, either
directly or shared through someone close to us.
The sources are many. Some life-hurts
are almost overwhelming: job loss, divorce,
business failure, terminal illness, death. Others are
less serious but can be just as hurtful: a harsh argument,
being rejected by someone we love, making an
embarrassing mistake, being the victim of a lie. Did you know that even Jesus experienced pain and
loss? His earthly father, Joseph, died while Jesus was still a
young boy. He wept at the death of his friend, Lazarus (John 11:35).
He was misunderstood by friends and
family (Mark 3:21).
Some
accused Him of being insane (John
10:20). He endured temptations (Hebrews 2:12).
And finally, Jesus
was beaten, humiliated, and crucified on a cross.
Do you know why Jesus died? So that you
might live (John 10:10)! So that you might be healed
(1 Peter 2:24)! The healing He offers goes beyond the
band-aid of just "feeling good about
yourself." His healing goes deep to the soul-wound of your
sinfulness. That dark place in your heart you try to
deny, cover-up, and pretend doesn't exist. After all,
this is the source of all your real hurt, because it's
here, in the secret heart place, that all your pains
are stored. And it's from here that all the hurting
you do to others emerges (Romans 8:23).
You don't like to bear
hurt. You don't want to hurt others. Jesus understands and
offers himself as a solution (John 8:34-36). He will both walk with you and bear your
pain, and empower you to not be hurtful. He heals the hurts you experience
and forgives those you generate. Isn't that a wonderful concept?
The freedom and healing that Jesus extends to all
will engage your whole being and make you want to shout,
"Yes!"
(John 3:16)
So, how do you earn this healing? You don't!
It's free. Just acknowledge that you need Jesus in your
life and ask Him to come in, and the healing will
begin flood your heart, mind, and soul (Acts 3:19).
You have to
choose to turn away from sin. You have to choose
to welcome Jesus in as the Center and Ruler of your life. There is
no other way (Acts 4:12).
But salvation is completely
free since He already paid the price (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).
Then, to continue healing, stay healthy and become truly whole,
you'll want to read God's word, the Bible, and find others who have been healed
to be in community with (Colossians 3:16)! The desire of
God's heart is that you
will find your peace and comfort in Jesus, and
the healing you so desperately long for. Just as
His Word says it's yours if you want it. All you
need to do is accept as Jesus offers (Matthew 11:28-30).
