"The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song." Psalm 28:7 (NIV)

==========

According to the American Heritage Dictionary, thankful means "aware and appreciative of a benefit."

Poetess Christina Rossetti wrote, "Were there no God, we would be in this glorious world with grateful hearts and no one to thank."

To be thankful one must first be aware of the fact that this is indeed a glorious world and benefits abound. It's hard to see the glory at times given that the world is pockmarked with wars, savagery, terrorism, ravaging diseases, famines, and more -- all the detritus that fills the evening newscasts and the morning papers and fills us with sadness and dread.

Yet none of this is new or unique to the 21st century, nor does it diminish the glory of God's creation and the many, many blessings for which we can be -- must be -- thankful.

Tomorrow is thanksgiving. If you are reading this, you have much to be thankful for. How do I know that? Well, most likely you're in a warm house or office. You have shelter, a PC, the ability to read, and the love of God in your heart. Very likely tomorrow you will be eating turkey with friends or relatives. Even if you spend the day alone, you'll not be hungry or cold or unloved. You are rich!

Bow your head and thank God for the benefit of His glory in your life.
