"Every one of these depends on you to give them daily food. You supply it, and they gather it. You open wide your hand to feed them, and they are satisfied with all your bountiful provision." Psalm 104:27-28 (LB)

Go back and take a look at the devotional from September 14, 2004. The opening lines were, "What if you ask but you don't get? Being self-employed is frequently equivalent to being unemployed. Dry spells when no one is seeking out your services are common. Usually, they are also temporary. My wife and I are both self-employed and we are going through quite an extended dry spell. Very extended. Very dry."

The concluding lines were, "Along with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego (Daniel 3) we say, “the God we serve is able to save us ... and he will rescue us ... But even if he does not..." Well, you know the rest of that story. I hope ours has a similar ending. In the meantime, it's feeling pretty warm."

What happened since then? For many weeks, not much. Then, a trickle of work. Little jobs here and there. Suddenly, only a couple of weeks ago, it seemed as if the flood gates burst. Within a matter of a few days, several queries and requests for quotes on jobs came in. Some rush jobs popped up. And finally, one big job turned from query into contract. And my wife was led into a new job opportunity that she is relishing and where she is reaping substantial and immediate rewards.

Erwin Lutzer has written, "A Christian who walks by faith accepts all circumstances from God. He thanks God when everything goes good, when everything goes bad, and for the 'blues' somewhere in-between. He thanks God whether he feels like it or not."

Right now, I feel like it. Thank you, God! Christmas came a few weeks early for us!
